Help with searches

+ Sign You can restrict your search results by combining terms. You do this by placing a + (plus) sign in front of every word that should appear in the photo descriptions relating to your searches. Example: +prinsentuin +volière produces as a result all the images in which the terms ‘prinsentuin’ and ‘volière’ occur.

- Sign A - (minus) sign in front of a search term means that this term should not appear in the photo descriptions. Example: prinsentuin –volière produces as a result all the images in which the term prinsentuin occurs, but not the term volière.

* Sign With the * (asterisk) sign, you can look for terms for which you do not know the exact spelling, or terms in which spelling variants may occur. Example: searching for fish* produces as a result all the images in which the spelling variants ‘catfish’ and ‘goldfish’ occur

No Sign If you fill in several terms and do not use any signs, the search engine will automatically search for images in which one or both terms occur. Example: searching for the combination of First World War delivers as a result all the images in which the terms First and/or World and/or War (therefore including, for example, images of the Second World War).

NB Only search terms of more than 3 characters will count in searching.
